Patrick Chartol
Patrick Chartol is a French multimedia artist whose work moves freely between sound and image. A composer, musician, painter, VJ, and visual artist, he builds bridges between disciplines where rhythm meets light and music becomes form. A bass guitarist of remarkable finesse and a permanent member of SACEM, Chartol explores the echoes between what is heard and what is seen — creating immersive experiences that dissolve the borders between the senses.
He performs as part of the electro-jazz band After in Paris, the Claire Michael Quartet, and the Turkish ensemble Nekropsi. Over the years, he has collaborated with celebrated artists such as MC Solaar, Dave Liebman, Raul de Souza, Claude Confortès, Paolo Fresu, Laco Tayfa, Caito Marcondes, Ray Lema, and Sertab Erener. In 2010, he directed the acoustic project Drums Barking by Cevdet Erek at La Gaîté Lyrique in Paris.
Chartol’s visual universe resonates with themes of symmetry, transparency, light, and improvisation. In 2017, he conceived an installation of 24 movable transparent polystyrene panels, illuminated by LED tiles of shifting intensity and color — creating “moving paintings” that hover between stillness and motion, painting and video.
That same year, during an artistic residency at La Traverse, he joined forces with Leif.e.Boman to produce three video artworks, composing their soundtracks and deepening his ongoing exploration of the dialogue between sound and vision.
