Roberto Tagle
Born in 1983 in Mexico City, Roberto Tagle is a self-taught artist whose sculptural practice began in his teenage years. Alongside studies in systems engineering at the National Autonomous University of Mexico, he developed an experimental approach using wire, paper, wood, clay, ceramics, fabric, and metal. His practice is rooted in the recycling of objects found in urban environments, transforming them into poetic and socially engaged artworks.
Grounded in ecological awareness, his work explores humanity’s capacity to repair and recreate from discarded materials, making waste a fertile ground for artistic rebirth.
In 2003, he won the national Alebrijes contest with a 2.4-meter papier-mâché sculpture displayed on Paseo de la Reforma, Mexico City. He taught sculpture at the University of Veracruz the following year. From 2005 to 2010, he undertook various projects across Latin America, including in Cuba, Belize, and Guatemala.
Living in Paris since 2011, he regularly exhibits across Europe (Galerie des Ponchettes in Nice, Galerie Bouillon d’art in Bordeaux, Pangolin Gallery in London). In 2016, he was invited by Le Centquatre in Paris to create a monumental sculpture from recycled materials. A resident at La Traverse (2016–2017), he participated in the 4th district’s open studios in Argenteuil. He currently works at the atelier Le Ventre de la Baleine in Pré-Saint-Gervais and is represented by Galerie Les Ponchettes.
